iPhone SE 2 seems like an Apple iPhone 8, but it has more innovative features
Apple has finally confirmed the new iPhone SE 2, a lower-cost iPhone that is starting at $399 for a 64GB storage version. It looks like the iPhone 8, meaning it has a 4.7-inch screen, wide bezels on top and bottom, and a Touch ID home button. It’s a style that’s been constant since the iPhone 6, making the iPhone SE the fifth generation of the same look.
Apple iPhone SE 2 will be available for preorder this Friday, April 17, and will be shipping on April 24. A 128 GB model will be sold for $449, and a $549 256 GB model. Like other iPhones, Apple TV Plus will be also offered free for a year. It’ll arrive in three different colors: red, black and white.
The iPhone SE 2 is simply just like an iPhone 8 that has an improved camera and processor, with a cheaper price tag. Although it seems an older version, however, it has Apple’s latest A13 Bionic chip that is available in the new Apple iPhone 11 and 11 Pro variants.
That will make sure that it has a much longer lifetime than the iPhone 8 model as it’s replacing in Apple’s lineup, which had an A11 chip. The iPhone SE 2 does not have a plus-sized version, while the iPhone 8 Plus does continue to be offered in certain countries.
The processor will also allow the latest iPhone SE 2 to achieve some new features for the camera. It has a single 12-megapixel camera lens and a flash at the back. Apple says it’s using the A13 Bionic chips to strengthen its Smart HDR photography, which blends multiple photos into single to enhance brightness and details.
Apple’s iPhone SE 2 also has a portrait mode with “monocular depth-sensing” technology for Phone calls. It uses machine learning to detect depth and faces, means, unfortunately, means it can only function on humans, not on pets. This requires a digital image stabilizer, and Apple says it can do “cinematic” video stabilization, as well as allows 60fps of 4K video. The selfie camera is 7-megapixel, and it can also do effects on portrait mode.
Many of the latest iPhone SE 2 parts are identical to the Apple iPhone 8. It will have the same battery capacity as the iPhone 8 (but no exact details about the capacity of the battery). Apple said iPhone 8 case design works perfectly on SE 2. It has a 4.7-inch IPS Retina LCD display with True-Tone-color. It sounds as if the screen size is almost the same as the iPhone 8.
There is no compromise of a quality perspective. This IPS display is well-known and popular, which means that people out of luck are those who were waiting for a smaller handset. Apple claims this is the most favorite screen size it’s ever sold and that’s why it’s now using the same display size.
Apple iPhone SE 2 includes a 5W charger in the package, but it can support 18W fast charging. It allows Qi wireless charging and uses a Lightning connector to charge. There’s no headphone jack but Lightning headphones are included in the pack.
With have some of the other enhanced specifications it also supports Gigabit LTE, dual-SIM (an eSIM) and Wi-Fi 6. The SE 2 also supports Haptic Touch, which is Apple’s 3D Touch substitute, amounting to long-press haptic feedback.
Apple iPhone SE 2 is yet another big introduction of smartphones arriving in the midst of the pandemic. The lower cost of the SE and the Touch ID sensor could be slightly more appealing than normal. Apple stated that it agrees that consumers are more than ever focused on their phones right now, but the fact that its physical stores are closed. Apple’s website and app provide strong customer service, but what would be the demand for new phones right now? remains to be seen. Amazon and Best Buy can give pick-up on the curbside in areas where it is available.
