Apple Provides Free Replacement for Faulty iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR Smart Cases

Apple says that last year it sold few defective Smart Battery Cases for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR phones. Such cases may now cause customers issues paying, and if that is the case, Apple is giving the affected users a free replacement.

The Cupertino giant has launched the Smart Battery Case Replacement Program for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR phones, and users can go to any authorized service provider for a free replacement.

Apple says that faulty Smart Battery Cases units were manufactured between January and October 2019. The company claims these defective units do not pose any security threats and may not function properly.

One of the many issues could be likely–the battery case won’t charge the phones at all, or the case will only charge the phones intermittently when plugged into electricity, and the case may not charge itself or only when the power is plugged in.

In any of these cases, Apple will repair the case free of charge, and impacted customers can go to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or make an appointment to replenish the Smart Battery Case at an Apple Retail Store.

Apple reports that this replacement program only covers Smart Battery cases that were affected two years after the unit’s first retail sale. The plan does not expand the Smart Battery Case’s regular warranty coverage, so replacement or repair will be restricted to the original purchase country or region.

The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR Smart Battery Case was released last year in January and came with a $129 price tag. In the case of the iPhone XS, it is reputed to raise talk time to 33 hours or up to 39 hours in the case of the iPhone XR.
