Widgets have always been present in Apple iOS for years, but typically they’re on a specific display screen, rather than anywhere you want them to be, as with Android. But you can get the versatility early. 9to5Mac recently discovered that Apple is creating a ‘true’ widget program for iOS 14 as part of a continuing series of code leaks.
Codenamed “Avocado,” the feature will allow you to put widgets on your home screen anywhere as if they were icons in the game. The 9to5 crew warned that there was a risk that Apple could cut the feature (say, because of development time).
Although this new option seems interesting, it may be an even more significant part of iOS 14. 9to5Mac found evidence of the latest internally named “Avocado” functionality of the iOS 14 code that is connected to the home screen managed springboard feature.
The news is also supported by the latest post hint from Twitter‘s user Dongle about a new strategy to wallpaper in iOS 14. Wallpaper settings supposedly leaked screenshots include a category of “home screen appearance” that would allow smart, dynamic wallpapers to be blurred, dark or flat on demand. In theory, if your normal context is too busy, this force make widgets stand out
We don’t have full versatility like Android, where you can have dimensional widgets and button shortcuts almost anywhere on the home screen. If this new widget design hits iOS 14, however, it could take customers who believe that the home screen interface of iOS remained virtually unchanged for several years.
